Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Director position to join our Career Services department. The Office of the Career Services at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) is committed to assisting students and alumni achieve their career goals by providing career guidance using a variety of resources, activities, and partnerships. The Director of Career Services is responsible for leading the Office of Career Services and developing partnerships with corporate and industry partners, student, alumni, and faculty. The Director is held accountable for overseeing the development and the implementation of programs and resources to help the student and alumni develop professionally while upholding the University’s vision, mission, and values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Build professional relationships within industry and provide leadership in the development, implementation, and administration of comprehensive career services for students and alumni
Develop partnerships with a broad base of employers to identify internship and full-time employment opportunities, salary levels, and educational requirements for careers in the programs that the university offers
Work collaboratively with academic department chairs, program directors and faculty to enhance career development opportunities for students and alumni
Develop and maintain close working relationships with Academics, Development, Alumni Affairs, and the Wellness Center
Advise/counsel/coach students and alumni on career-related options, employment outlook, and skill and educational requirements
Assess the needs of students of students and alumni for developing new initiatives that will assist them in identifying and achieving their career goals
Oversee recruiting and career-related events
Keep current on employment and labor market trends
Develop new corporate partnerships while retaining existing ones
Aggressively market the services of the Career Services Office to employers, students, and alumni
Identify, develop, and integrate technology to increase the quality of services and programs
Create and conduct workshops addressing topics such as portfolio development, presentation skills, and self-promotion and branding
Develop, administer, and manage the Career Services budget
Provide leadership and oversight of the Career Services staff, work-study students, and interns
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate/oversee/implement the Annual Career Fair
Coordinate the University’s co-op program
Oversee department statistics, data collection, and reporting
Maintain knowledge and credentialing as appropriate for professional practice
Be involved in Career Services professional organizations
Participate on internal and external advisory boards as appropriate
Gain a full understanding of the University’s academic programs
Be willing to work flexible, extended hours and to travel
Develop and motivate career service staff to achieve the Office and University mission and vision
Perform additional duties as required
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in related field
Previous experience in career services or related field preferred
Previous experience in career counseling/advising/coaching or staff/student recruiting preferred
Proven track record of success in creating dynamic programs and new initiatives
Leadership capacity requiring significant budget, planning, and personnel management
Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities
Other skills including conflict resolution skills, time management skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to use a high level of tact, empathy, and diplomacy, and the ability to communicate with a diverse population
